I'VE HAD SOME REQUESTS FOR MY IRISH

Soda Bread
recipe,
so I'm
posting it
here for
you.

You'll notice at

the end a
currant, etc...option.

Just so you know, if you add them it is not Irish Soda Bread anymore, it is called Spotted Dog.

Irish Soda Bread

1/4 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 heaping TBSP brown sugar
3 TBSP butter
1 beaten egg
3/4 cup buttermilk

Combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and buttermilk to flour mixture. Optional add in: 1 cup craisins, currants or raisins.
On a floured board, knead dough for 12 strokes. Dough is sticky so be generous with your flour. Shape dough into a 6 inch round. Brush with a beaten egg. Cut a cross into the top about 1/2 inch deep.
Bake at 375 for 35 minutes.
