What a fun giveaway! My favorite memory is reading about my 3rd grandpa who was an indentured servant as a little boy at a British Col's house in MA (before the revolutionary war) and the mistress of the house did not like him. The kitchen servants and slaves told him to run the devil he is if she ever comes after him because she will whip him fierce. Well sure enough one day she came after him with a whip in her hand. He ran away and she started chasing him and it's described that she did not run in a manner of a lady. He of course out ran her and then the Col just told him not to do it again... but she thought the Col whiped him good. And when he would tell his kids this story there was a laughing twinkle in his eye about how she ran after him.
I was working on my mom's dad's line, and hooked into some research some distant (very)relative had done. All of a sudden I had a line that stretched back to colonial times, and I realized I'm eligible to join the DAR! (I didn't, but still exciting!)
Your my inspiration and hero when it comes to family history! I would love any and all the tips you can give! :)
I remember my mom would always make quiche on Christmas day :-)
