INDEPENDENCE DAY

We usually go down to the beach for Independence Day, but with it falling on a Wednesday, it changed our plans this year.
We had a bbq in our backyard and then went to see the fireworks at Salem Riverfront Park.
Stephanie reminded our family of a story from the biography of our 3rd great grandmother, Sarah DeArmon Pea Rich.
She would sit at her grandfather's feet and help him work at night.  He would tell her stories of the war to keep her awake.  Her grandfather (our 5th great grandfather) served as a body guard to General George Washington for awhile and told her how he was a great man and that every night would go into his tent and pray for everyone under his command.

That story warms my heart.  I hope that you had a wonderful Independence Day celebration.
